FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Boston, MA. May 26, 2020
Gro iQ, the Yield Optimization Platform for Cannabis Cultivators, is pleased to announce the recent hire of Rodrigo M. Pereyra as Sr. Consulting Engineer. Mr. Pereyra will assist in developing Gro iQ’s strategic, tactical and operational initiatives - with a focus on energy efficiency.
Mr. Pereyra has over 15 years of experience in R&D, innovation and new product creation in the lighting industry, ranging from high intensity discharge to LED lighting systems. In his most recent positions as the Head of Innovation (U.S.) and Strategic Program Manager for Urban Digital Farming at OSRAM (www.osram-group.com), he oversaw the development of a cloud-based software platform for lighting control, sensor ingest and data analytics for indoor and greenhouse cultivation.
“I was attracted by the company’s platform designed specifically for the Controlled Agriculture industry to provide real-time grow room analytics,” Pereyra said. “Actionable data and analytics give producers an edge and the power to maximize efficiency, lower costs, and increase yields and profits. In today’s hyper-competitive environment, a continuous learning data platform offers more predictability and enables faster, more cost-effective interventions when problems are found.”
“We are thrilled to have someone of Rodrigo’s caliber join the expanding Gro iQ Team”. Peter Dougherty, Gro iQ Founder and CEO said, “Having led the internal technological initiatives at OSRAM, he is a true rock star who brings us years of technical experience in cultivation and horticultural lighting systems. Incorporating that knowledge will help us to continue enhancing Gro iQ capabilities so that producers can effectively use data to enable lower operational costs and a more sustainable use of existing resources.”
Over the last 5 years, the focus of his work has been in horticultural lighting systems leading technical project delivery. As part of these projects, Pereyra and his team did upfront customer engagements to understand lighting and cultivation strategies, facility requirements and systems engineering in order to develop novel lighting systems. These projects spanned hardware and software development, lighting design and deployment and site installations. Exemplary projects include systems at Michigan State University, NASA and vegetable greenhouses in Ontario, Canada.
Rodrigo holds multiple patents and trade secrets in lighting systems. He holds a BA in physics from Boston University and lives in Salem, Massachusetts with his family. When not working, Rodrigo is an avid cook, traveler, gardener and language geek.
